Scout Camp

-N- turned 12 in time to go to Scout camp this summer. The scoutmaster's wife told me a story about -N- the day we left camp for home. She was helping us by driving her truck and filling it full of YW gear. On Saturday when I picked -N- up from camp, I got the full version from the scoutmaster. So here it is: The Boys were hiking Table Rock Mountain. There was a point in the trail that they needed to cross the river. So they all took off their shoes and socks. -N- was crossing and somehow he dropped one of his shoes in the river. They could not rescue it. So when -N- got across, he took his hoodie sweatshirt and wrapped it around his foot. The scoutmaster took an ace bandage and wrapped it over that. He hiked a little while longer. Another boy was struggling on the trail and the scoutmaster thought maybe -N- would like to go back with this boy to camp. When the scoutmaster asked -N- if he wanted to go back to camp with this other boy, -N- begged please, don't make me go back to camp. So he completed the hike with his sweatshirt-shoe. I was told that he hiked about 12 miles that way. Way to go -N-! His scoutmaster was quite impressed that he was not a quitter, and that he wanted to finish the hike so badly. there is only one tiny hole in his sweatshirt, but I don't think that the white part inside the hood will ever be white again. It will be brown for life.

I see a scrapbook page coming up... That sweatshirt looks terrible - must have been comfortable though for him to finish the hike!
