Capri pants

As a good mother, I try to foster independence in my children, so I let them pick their own clothing and dress themselves. Of course, this can lead to humiliating moments for me. Like, when one of the young women in the ward comments on your deacon son's high water pants. She probably noticed while he was passing the sacrament, that is when I did. Anyway, my kids seem to be having growth spurts because their pants have all turned to high waters.

-L- is getting taller. She has a pair of pants that she loves. They are a size 5T. They fit great in the waist, the length however is a different story. She has worn these pants many times before and I have not said a word. Yesterday, the case was different. -L-got all ready for school, wearing said short pants.
Me: -L-, I think those pants are too short for you now. Go put on another pair and let's put those in the box for -K- to grow into.

-L-: I really like these pants.

Me: They are too short. They look like capris.

-L-: I will wear my snow boots all day, then no one will see that they are short.
Problem solved!

Perfect solution in her 6 year old mind. Obviously I let her wear the pants. She solved the problem. (There again, what a good mom I am, letting her solve her own problem, right?) Unfortunately, what she doesn't realize is that mom does the laundry and clothing that is too small somehow finds its way into a hand-me-down-box. No doubt they will be missed. I suppose I can hide them until summer, pull them out, and surprise! A pair of capris!

I'm glad this picture has been documented for her to see later in life. Kids are kind of hilarious, arent' they?
